Monitoring diaper system (IoT)

Caregivers or parents who attend seniors or babies, have to manually check if the diapers are wet. The Falcon Technology developed a proof of concept (POC) which has produced an IoT system that provides this information in real time.

The target populations for such technology include infants, disabled individuals and senior citizens.

What is Monitoring diaper system?

The Monitoring diaper system has been designed to help caregivers to detect when it is time to change patient diapers. Except for the condition of the diapers, there is the possibility of reading the patient’s position in the room so we can determine if the patient is on the bed or not.

Nurses in hospitals or different kinds of healthcare with the help of this system know in real time which patient they have to visit.

The Monitoring diaper system helps the supporters to identify the users just after the defecation in order to change their diapers.

The main improvements that Monitoring diaper system offers

  • Time saving
  • Resources planning
  • Removing a wet diaper in a timely manner
  • Eliminate the risks related to infection and other issues (skin rashes or allergies) caused by the failure to remove a wet diaper

How Monitoring diaper system works

The system relies on the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag that is placed in the diaper. It is used to enable reporting via Sonar that the diaper is wet. The Sonar is built into the chip and reports to the system about diaper condition via WIFI connection.

ESP chip with the Sonar can be installed on the ceiling or behind ceiling panels and read up to 8 people in the room.

IoT in healthcare

The need of the Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly growing in a wide variety of industries. IoT is making industries more efficient through automation and data processing. One of the most important industries that IoT is making a positive impact on is healthcare. Gathering and processing data is exactly what an industry like healthcare can greatly benefit from.

IoT in healthcare makes hospital staff’s jobs easier by giving them the tools to gather, transfer and store data between interconnected devices.

The benefits of IoT in healthcare

Implementing IoT in the healthcare industry has already been shown to have a lot of important benefits. Some of the benefits of applying IoT in healthcare include:

  • Improves efficiency
  • Reduces cost
  • Personalized attention
  • Increases patient satisfaction
  • Improves treatment
  • Reduces errors
  • Faster Diagnosis
  • Doctors making more informed decisions
